Leonard

Licensed Professional Counselor Candidate

I accept: Medicaid, Self-Pay

LeonardLeonard is a Master of science student intern of Grand Canyon University’s Professional Counseling curriculum. He obtained his undergraduate degree in liberal arts with an emphasis in health care and religious studies from Excelsior College in New York. He loves to work with children and families. Helping them in the resolution of conflicts, adjustment and achievement of personal and collective goals has become an enduring passion and career focus. His skill set for this work has been developed over a span of 20 years in the career roles of clergy, licensed nurse and clinical chaplain. In such roles he has gained experience helping individuals and families facing troubles with trauma, grief, disability, theological belief systems, substance abuse, and gender adjustment. He refines this experience in his current matriculation toward the degree and role of professional counselor. Although he finds useful value in the vice and virtues of a number of theoretical orientations, choice theory and its applications have been found most intriguing and congruent with his worldview. Nonetheless, what works best for the client, patient or parishioner is what becomes the tool of choice in his work. Outside of work Leonard loves to occupy his time with horses, motorcycles, tactical sports, numismatics, antique collections, family, community volunteering and faith based activities. Language and cultural studies are also among the things he engages in for fun and personal enrichment away from work.

Randy

Licensed Professional Counselor

I accept: BCBS, Multiplan, United Healthcare, HealthChoice, DRS, Aetna, Medicaid, Self-Pay

randy-therapist

Randy graduated with degrees in Vocational Rehabilitation Counseling, Business Administration, and Computer Science from Langston and Oklahoma State Universities. He describes himself as a result oriented therapist. Observation shows that most of the students that are disruptive, perpetrators or victims of bullying, or who do not participate in learning activities, have moderate to severe learning deficiencies. Counseling alone will never alleviate these problems as long as the student feels embarrassed, scared, or is unable to comprehend material in class.

In many alternative schools and in the normal classrooms, Randy has witnessed these students’ disruptive behaviors greatly increase when they are asked to read, answer questions, and participate in classroom activities in the subjects in which they are academically deficient.

He helps these students with the emotional problems they face and to eliminate part of the problem by helping them to reach their level in the classroom through educational rehabilitation.

Randy won First Prize in a Research Symposium “Undiagnosed Traumatic Brain Injuries in Veterans Returning from Gulf War”. He specializes in Christian Redemptive based Counseling and Reality Therapy. He has thirty years’ experience guiding and teaching adolescents in education, work, family, and social life settings. Randy is skilled in planning and coordinating appropriate learning experiences for youth that are fun and valuable. He has experience teaching behavioral and learning challenged students. He has worked with students at several behavioral health hospitals, a juvenile detention facility, and an adult correctional facility. He developed and taught classes for parenting and building relationships in adolescent unexpected parent groups and he also counsels elderly and disabled clients to assist them in keeping or gaining an independent living status. He has experience working with depression in elderly and adolescence populations as well. Randy has more than 20 years working, managing, and training youth and young adults in the hospitality industry as chef/instructor.
